Michelle

Michelle Mahasin is the artistic name of Michelle Santana. A Brazilian bellydancer who moved to Sweden in 2005. She began to practice bellydance in 2001, while still studying Marine Biology at Santa Cecília University in Santos, São Paulo. Originally the dance was just a physical activity, but soon became her great passion and then started to flow naturally in their life.

In 2005 Michelle won first place at São Paulo Bellydance contest and National bellydance Contest (professional Category at Mercado Persa Festival, the biggest bellydance festival in Brazil.

Also in 2005 she was selected as a dancer by Khan El Khalili audition, one of the most important bellydance schools and Café in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2006, she got second place at Laialy Festival in Stockholm, Sweden.

Michelle studied with the best professionals in bellydance from Santos, participated in workshops with dancers from various parts of the world and has specialized in the training course with Lulu Sabongi in 2004 and 2005 (focus on Egyptian bellydance style).

Currently she lives in Sweden where studies computer technology (emphasis on web programming) at University of Kalmar and also teaches bellydance in the Dance Academy Latina. She is frequently invited to present and teach at bellydance festivals in various parts of the world and she has already been teaching and performing in countries like Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Sweden, Egypt and Turkey.

Lately Michelle has also been studied the American and Turkish bellydance styles and also sought inspiration from other dances or activities such as samba, jazz, hip hop, yoga, capoeira and meditation to form a unique style, in both her classes and in her dance techniques.

In addition Michelle has been working for the bellydance to be seen and admired as an artistic expression as other fully respected dance styles, such as jazz, ballet and flamenco have been.

Besides the dance, Michelle also likes to draw and works as web designer.
